I have been passionate about painting since childhood, honing my skills through self-teaching via books and watching "The Almighty Brush," Bill Alexander, and Bob Ross on TV. Although I couldn't afford oil paints initially, I started with acrylics, pencil, charcoal, and ink. Despite using acrylics, I strived to emulate the richness of oils. Over the years, I experimented with various surfaces, but canvas remains my favorite.

Marriage led me to a military life, stationed in places like Bergstrom AFB, Texas, where we ran our own shop, Hemme's Art and Antiques, in Lockhart. Later, I opened my gallery, teaching art to all ages and actively engaging in the local Art Guild, serving as President several times. From Lockhart to McCord AFB, I continued to integrate into local art communities, painting murals and winning awards at fairs and competitions, including the AF Worldwide Competition.

Raising four daughters posed challenges, yet I persisted in my art. Upon my husband's military retirement, we returned to Merced, where my sister and I founded "Crafty Sisters," participating in local craft fairs. As my children grew, I delved deeper into art, winning accolades at various fairs and galleries. Opened my own Art Studio (Tonia Hemme Fine Art and Creations) at the end of 2014, became a member of the Arbor Gallery and later a curator for the Multicultural Art Center.

In 2020, I proudly showcased 45 pieces in my exhibition, "My Journey," at the MAC. I am involved with both the city and county of Merced, teaching at correctional facilities and conducting painting classes for those who believe they lack artistic ability. Witnessing their newfound confidence brings me immense joy
